The colour of a person's skin can range in tone from very light (a pinkish tone that is considered white) to very dark (black). This coloring is determined by the amount of melanin (a type of pigmentation) that is found in the skin. The amount of pigmentation that you have is determined by your ancestors and your sex. Males have slightly more pigmentation than females no matter what their skin colour or heritage.

Most people take skin pigmentation for granted. No matter what colour their skin is it is usually fairly regular in shade and tone. However, certain conditions and factors do exist that can cause skin pigmentation changes.

The Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) therapy is a noninvasive tool that can be used to reverse the signs of photoaged skin. A handheld lamp is placed on the skin surface that emits a broad spectrum of light wavelengths, hence this treatment is also known as photorejuvenation. The treatment should consist of three to six sessions spaced 2-3 weeks apart.

Indications for IPL are vascular malformations (telangiectases), facial hypertrichosis (facial hair especially in women), melasma, post acne marks, and some birthmarks..

The more time passes, the more the skin loosens, becoming less smooth and less firm, wrinkles and fine lines begin to tunnel out  trenches of varying depths on the skin’s surface. Fine lines are shallower than wrinkles themselves.

At the origins of a wrinkle or a fine line is a rupture of the elastic fibres in the dermis and connective tissue is involved. Collagen and elastic fibres are altered and reduced as a result of repeated stretching of certain areas, making the skin lose its flexibility.

These factors may be aggravated by the influence of the sun, wind, tobacco and stress.  Wrinkles or fine lines can appear on virtually any surface of the body, with the more apparent areas being, especially, the face, chest and neck

During a chemical peel, alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA) is applied onto the skin to remove the outer layer of cells, lightly exfoliating the skin to give a healthy glow. This form of cosmetic treatment can reduce fine wrinkles, freckles, irregular pigmentation and remove rough, scaly patches on the client’s skin.

Chemical peels are designed to accelerate the removal of old layer of the epidermis to promote new cell growth.

The procedure can take anything from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the location (face or body). Usually a series of 3 sessions are needed to treat  aging  skin and acne scars. Stretch marks removal on the other hand may take additional sessions with 2-3 months interval.Patients with melisma and other pigmented skin changes will benefit from a series of chemical/AHA peels combined with a home regimen of bleaching agents such as SkinTouch’s Bleaching 4 in 1, Rejuvenating Solution, Vitamin C cream or Kojic Cream

There are various types of acne scars, each treated with different method.  Acne scars can be significantly reduced by a number of methods including fractionated laser resurfacing, subscision, and chemical peels.  Finding a specialist trained in all methods of acne scar treatment gives patients the best outcome.  Fractional laser resurfacing is the revolutionary method of treating acne scars- minimizing patient down time, and maximizing results.  Skin needling can be effective in treating acne scars, however results with Fraxel/ Fractionated laser are consistently better.

As our Skin matures and is continuously subjected to environment effects, its connective tissue begins to break down, causing wrinkles and other signs of aging.

The Multipolar RF energy penetrates skin layers to selectively heat the skin tissue and the extra cellular matrix where the collagen fibers are embedded.  The local heating causes an immediate contraction of the collagen fibers, and at the same time increases the metabolism of the fibrolasts thereby accelerating the production of new collagen and elastin fibers.

The contraction of collagen fibers and the regeneration of the collagen and elastin deposits, tighten the skin layers creating smoother, healthier and younger looking skin.
